Twelve Days of CADD Care | Day Five: An early present from Autodesk in Revit 2024.2

December 7th, 2023

On the fifth day of CADD Care, the CADD team gave to me… a Revit tip!

When I was young, I would always snoop under the Christmas Tree to figure out my presents.  As an adult, I have grown past that, but I am still always excited to see what new features are added to Revit each year.  Autodesk surprised us this year with a new point release right before the holidays.  Autodesk has released Revit 2024.2, with many small but useful features.  Here are some of my favorite new features to begin your Holiday Season!

The New Revit Home: Tech Preview

There is a New Revit Home toggle button to switch between the classic and new homepage with more features.  The new Revit homepage provides more ways to view, sort, and find models and versions.  Navigation has improved by allowing you to navigate within the folder structure of projects.  The selected folder will be remembered across Revit sessions.  You can now search both recent and Autodesk project pages with filters.  In addition to navigation and search improvements, users can now pin models on the Recent page to always list their favorite models.

Dark Theme for Schedules and Panel Schedules

Dark theme has been improved to now include the ability to enable dark theme in Schedules, Panel Schedules, and Panel Schedules Template edit mode.

Sorting Parameters Alphanumerically

Project Parameters can now be sorted alphanumerically both from the Property Palette and Type Properties dialog.

Add Area Boundary Line in Model Group Editor

The model group editor enabled the Add Area Boundary Line tool to modify the area boundary. This will allow users to create Area boundaries within groups.

Remember Type Properties Divider Setting

The Type Properties dialog allows users to adjust the column width within the dialog. New in 2024.2, Revit will remember the column width and be preserved per machine.

Create Similar Uses Correct Draw Tool

Prior to 2024.2, when users used Create Similar on Lines, it would not necessarily start the Line tool with the correct draw mode. For example, when a circle was selected, the Create Similar would start the line tool using the Line mode as opposed to the Circle mode.

Keep Views in Design Option Modification

When non-primary Design Options are deleted during Accept Primary, all views that were created in these Design Options can now be preserved. Views are unchecked by default in the Delete Dedicated Option Views dialog, and you can check only those views you want to delete. Previously, some view types, such as drafting views or schedules, created in a to-be-deleted design option, were checked for deletion and could not be unchecked.
